Pragmatix Creates an Applications Portal and a User Maintenance System
The Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau (PCRB) is the licensed rating organization for workers
compensation insurance in the state of Pennsylvania.
Business Issue
- Create an improved sign-in and permissions
- Develop a universal web interface that communicates with multiple systems
- Establish a system that requires minimal maintenance
Business Results
- One user ID and password to access multiple web applications
- Centralized user maintenance.
- Easy Usage reporting.
- Multilevel security permissions.
The user sign-on and permission information for the many different web-enabled services deployed
by PCRB was scattered across multiple databases and made maintenance a nightmare. Updating user information
and restrictions was tedious and time consuming for system administrators in addition to being a nuisance
for users who had to remember multiple passwords. To improve user maintenance, Pragmatix developed a universal
login (UL) web application. It was installed as a central portal for all users and operated as a single access
point for all secure applications. User registration and maintenance is now performed from one web application
that interfaces with the other secure sites.
The UL application provides centralized security and involves multiple levels of security and administration
allowing administrators to delegate administrative functions as needed. From one area, users can manage and
monitor application access and availability to web users. In addition, applications through the portal can be
restricted on a per-user or department basis. Administrators can also generate usage reports, disable users, and
distribute informational emails and control access to available applications from one application.
