After the motherboard of a business laptop short circuited when a family member plugged in an
iPod, the owner contacted Pragmatix for help. Not only were valuable business documents lost but the
business owner endured several days of downtime. The owner wanted Pragmatix to establish a fail-proof
computing infrastructure to protect her business and home from costly accidents.
First, a new business laptop with the latest business tools and applications was set up which was designed
solely for business use. Next, all computer systems and applications in the home were cleaned, reinstalled and
upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007. The current wireless network was found to be wide open and Pragmatix
configured WPA on the wireless router.
A powerful storage system was added to protect valuable business data. Pragmatix chose an Iomega NAS device which
allows easy and safe information storage. Two separate dedicated servers were also configured and set up for business
and family use. The NAS device acts as the primary file server easily synchronizing business files from any machine
in the house. The family computers maintain plenty of personal storage space with shared access to music
and photo files.
To work remotely from anywhere and retrieve email on the BlackBerry, Pragmatix enabled Mailstreet, an easy to use
hosted Microsoft Exchange service provided by Apptix (an IBM partner). Mailstreet provides the user with Microsoft
Outlook email, calendars, contacts, tasks and other mailbox contents when not having desktop access to
Outlook. The service easily synchronized with the owner's BlackBerry.
" As a home-based market research consultant, I needed
a fail-safe wireless network, data back-up and email access from anywhere. Since our
household computers are shared with family members as well as my business, they have
to perform double duty in addition to safeguards for our two young children. Pragmatix
immediately understood my unique business and personal needs balancing them with
exceptional service and delivery. The overall outcome, turnaround time and support
was exceptional. My comfort level in the security and reliability of the new system is priceless. The
best news is that this type of sophisticated solution is affordable for a small business
such as mine."
